BRIEF OF LIVESTOCK & DAIRYDEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTLAKKI MARWAT

District Lakki Marwat is situated to the extreme south East of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the north it joins the Bannu, west side is FR Lakki Marwat and Tank, southern side meats with D. I. Khan and eastern side touches Punjab (District Mianwali).

Livestock plays an important role in the socio economic development of poor Farmers particularly of women community and homeless and landless people. Milk, Meat and eggs are the main source of animals protein, which are integral parts of human health. Most of the population of the District lives in villages and the literacy ratio is very low. Therefore the Livestock Farmers rear their Livestock on traditional methods and are unaware of about modern techniques and new improved breeds of Livestock.

Needless to mention that the technical staff of Livestock Department pay visits to different villages and hold field days, Farmers meeting and cattle shows to share their technical knowledge with the Livestock farmers. The farmers give very positive response to the advices of the technical staff.

JOB DISCRIPTION/ACTIVITIES

ANIMAL HEALTH:

Under this activity veterinary aid is provided to ailing Livestock within the Hospitals and at door level.
Prophylactic Vaccination against various contagious diseases of Livestock and birds particularly poultry birds in the District.

DISEASES REPORTING SYSTEMS:

Various contagious diseases are reported and sent to the concerned authorities well in time for proper diagnosis.

BREED IMPROVEMENT:

Under this activity the local breed of cows is being converted in to high milk yield breed through artificial insemination of Friesian & jersey semen.The local breeds of sheep & Goats are crossed with Beetle Buck and Damani Rams for more milk and meat production.

AWARENESS AMONGST THE FARMERS:

Field days and cattle shows are being held to create awareness amongst the farmers about livestock diseases and their effective control and importance of livestock in the poverty reduction, introduction of new breeds of cows, sheep and goats.

FEED IMPROVEMENT:

Balance feed for livestock is very important. For this purpose farmers are being informed about the importance of concentrates in the Feed & fodder crops like Sada Bahar & Mott Grass, which provide green grass in dry months of the year like (June, July, august.).
