About Department	Livestock plays an important role in the socio economic development of poor farmes particularly of women community and homeless and land less people. Milk, meat and eggs are the main source of animal’s protein, which are integral parts of human health. Most of the population lives in villages and the literacy ration is very low. Therefore, the farmers rearing livestock on traditional methods and are unaware about modern farming techniques and new improved breeds of livestock.
Organization Structure	Livestock & Dairy Development has two Directorates on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa i.e. 1-Directorate of Livestock & dairy Development Extension Department 2- Directorate of Livestock & Dairy Development Research Department, under ministry of agriculture, livestock, fisheries & cooperative department. Livestock Extension Department have its sub-offices (District Director Offices) in each district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Functions	Major functions of livestock department :- Ø Breed improvement activities i.e. artificial insemination Ø Treatment of small & large animals Ø Vaccination campaigns against contagious diseases Ø Arrangements of formers awareness sessions and filed days & Farmer trainings Ø Awareness session regarding modern dairy farming techniques, Calf nutrition programs in order to meet the milk & meat production in the country.
Objective	Main objective of the livestock and dairy development department (extension) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is to alleviate poverty by improving the socio-economic condition of farmers through enhancing the productivity of their livestock.

Development Projects	1. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Qemat Manjiwala 2. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Wanda Mir Alam 3. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Sheri Khel 4. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Umer Titter Khel 5. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Aghzar Khel 6. Civil Veterinary Dispensary at Dara Pezu 7. Backyard Poultry Provision program (PSDP) 8. Save the calf program (under PSDP) 9. Calf Fattening Program (PSDP)
Achievements	The Livestock & Dairy Development Department has achieved all the targets for year 2019-20 in Treatment, Vaccination & Artificial Insemination, and submit about 04 lac rupees into government treasury each month.

3. Remarks/Feedback

§ Lack of operational funds, particularly for vaccine and medicines.

§ Unavailability of buildings for veterinary institutions as more of units / centers i.e. CVD, CVC etc. are performing their activities in rented buildings including main / District Office.

§ Lack of funds for buildings repairing and rehabilitation as more of the centers are in a fragile conditions.
